Pregnancy Tests

August 26, 2009

Well, it is true.  We are pregnant.  Actually, right now we are almost through 12 weeks.  So we have been at this for a little bit.  But, I thought since we decided to go public with it I should start at the beginning.

Once upon a time, there was a young married couple that decided they wanted to have a kid.  They had practiced for quite some time, being married for a little over a year, and God said, it’s time.  So then enter Monday, July 6th.  Mondays have been a little weird because they have been my day off, but my wife still has to get up really early to be at work.  So she gets up at the butt crack of dawn and I keep sleeping.  Well, she had been feeling a little under the weather and decided it was time to take a pregnancy test.  She had actually already taken one early on Sunday morning, but it was a pretty cheap test and the line was really thin and not definitive.  Plus we had already had a false positive last year.  So we weren’t convinced.  Then the test on Monday morning.  She took it before I woke up, but then shortly after I had wandered out of bed and was on my way to the bathroom when she stopped me and woke me up because “this is kind of important”.  So I rubbed my eyes and leaned against the wall in an effort to wake up and then she hit me with the “we’re pregnant!”  We were very excited (although the excitement level oozing out of my body at 6:49 AM on a day off is a little bit harder to see)!  But, our minds (hers) weren’t totally convinced it was true so we decided to take another test.  (This brings the pregnancy test count to 3 if you are keeping track.  Needless to say, there was yet another test a day or two later “just in case”.)

Positive Pregnancy Tests

Shortly after talking about it for about 10 to 15 more minutes I started making my way back toward the bed.  No I’m not evil or a bad father.  I was still sleepy and she was putting make up on and we had all day (or nine more months) to discuss whether it was a boy or girl and what we were gonna name it.  So I believe I uttered something along the lines of “baby, I am really excited, but would you be offended or think that I’m not excited if I went back to sleep?”  Fortunately she obliged and I went back to sleep.  We proceeded to spend the rest of the day planning out the kid’s entire life as well as how to tell our families.  Unfortunately our families live a good distance away from us so we carved out some time and Skyped with them that evening and made several phone calls.

So there you go.  That’s the story.  We are gonna have kid.  We are almost a full 3 months along and we have seen the heart beat and got to hear it yesterday.  Stick around.  More to come!

Yeah. Kids. Got two of them. Heh — naming them was the easy part.

Congratulations. My brother and his wife are trying to think of a name for their kid who is due in a couple of months. I suggested a good, manly name such as “Thor Remington” or “Thor Hercules” and got laughed at.

I have to college grads, one in college and one starting high school this year. the birthdays get a little less exciting and life is defiantly not a box of chocolates. My kids are all good people and well worth the time and energy. I wouldn’t change a thing! I hope your children bring you as much pride and joy as mine have.

I had to laugh when you mentioned going back to sleep after KK told you (Todd did the same thing with probably less emotion at 2 a.m.)… 🙂 He he…sleep it up now!!! Sleep, sleep, SLEEP!!!!
